As a part of the WCI the IGD IUPUI Community of Practice developed and designed four posters (PDF format) representing the four stages of the IGD process. In partnership with the 50th celebration of IUPUI, 50 of these posters have been deployed all over the campus to ensure that discussions of inclusivity take place not only in textbooks, classrooms, and speeches but where we live and interact on our IUPUI campus. The IGD model was originally developed at Michigan University. It’s been adapted throughout the US in various forms. For IUPUI our focus is on Inclusivity and building space for dialogue. We view this process happening on a continuum, moving from showing inclusivity, becoming inclusive, engaging in inclusivity, to committing to inclusivity. Each aspect covers the 4 stages:
Stage 1) Create Meaning: Focus, Ask, Listen, Connect
Stage 2) Examine Identity: Reflect, Share, Learn, Apply
Stage 3) Difficult Conversations: Engage and examine, Communicate, Get motivated, Build Bridges
Stage 4) Building Alliances: Connect and Commit, Effect Change, Reflect and Evaluate
